Ed,
I appreciate some f the links you posted, Thanks.
Mark, as far as why people believe?
Think of this in language terminology.
If I say I believe in unicorns vs I know unicorns exist and here are the facts.
I have noticed of others in my daily life as well as the media.
People began using the word “believe” when making claims. Mostly unfounded claims. I originally used to exclusivley hear this, “Beleive” from religious referencing from religious folks in relation to the bible.
You will not hear a judge sentence you by saying “I believe you did the crime”. (I hope)!
I know 2+2=4 vs I believe 2+2-3.
When those of faith speak in biblical terms they use the words “I believe” most frequently.
Believe in God, believe in miracles.
When people speak in terms of I believe. I take it as they were convinced. There may or may not be facts or evidence to go with it because “believe ” as with biblical referencing is accepted on faith that requires no evidence or facts but merely feeling of being convinced.

By the way, in UK where Socialized Medicine has been worked on to perfection the omnipotent unchecked federal healthcare system known as NHS has all the kinks of Death Panels streamlined…hopefully someday we can be as efficient….

her dying grandmother = HIS dying grandmother….this is a fascinating segment of an interview. I personally find his description of his grandmother very detached and cold. I urge everyone to read the whole section in its entirety.

Actually the person to first suggest that President Barack Obama would institute DEATH PANELS was well…er….Barack Obama in a NYTImes interview in April, suggesting in fact that her dying grandmother’s desire for hip surgery was a wasteful use of precious medical resources:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Obama: The chronically ill and those toward the end of their lives are accounting for potentially 80 percent of the total health care bill out here.
Leonhardt: So how do you–how do we deal with it?
Obama: Well, I think that there is going to have to be a conversation that is guided by doctors, scientists, ethicists. And then there is going to have to be a very difficult democratic conversation that takes place. It is very difficult to imagine the country making those decisions just through the normal political channels. And that’s part of why you have to have some independent group that can give you guidance. It’s not determinative, but I think has to be able to give you some guidance. And that’s part of what I suspect you’ll see emerging out of the various health care conversations that are taking place on the Hill right now.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Upon reading about Obama’s “conversation that is guided by doctors, scientists, ethicists”, Sarah Palin wondered aloud on her Facebook page if Obama’s advisors like Ezekiel Emanuel and John HOldren may also think her baby with Downs syndrom may also be a waste of precious medical resources.
If you have an objection to the term Death Panel, please use a term you like. The idea of this panel isn’t necessarily to put someone to death so much as to deny resources to someone very likely to die so that they may be redirected to someone with a lot more life to live.
