I meant to give the link for the petition to protect the seals and also a bit more info:
During a recent hunt, veterinarians who examined dead seals concluded that 42% of the seals examined had most likely been skinned while they were alive and still conscious.

I shouldn’t be surprised but am still caught by the irony and hypocrisy of some of the left’s causes….
Animal rights note: In Bucharest, Romania, a street dog recently killed a Japanese businessman. Estimates of the number of street dogs in Bucharest range as high as 200,000, and dozens of citizens are treated for dog bites every day. In response to the death, the mayor has once again begun a program to exterminate the street dogs. Western animal rights activists, led by actress Brigitte Bardot, are leading the protests against this “inhuman” action. The dog is being defended in court by a prominent attorney.
PETITON TO PROTECT THE BABY SEALS:
The largest commercial slaughter of marine mammals on the planet is set to begin again in Canada next month.
By the end of the hunt, more than 300,000 seals are expected to be clubbed or shot to death by fishermen who hunt seals off-season to pick up extra cash by selling their skins. Almost all of their victims will be babies — some as young as 12 days old.
I signed this petiton…I am against this type of barbaric activity, but it really grates when I oppose this type of inhumane treatment of animals to find that the people who are leading this opposition are the very ones who are also urging people to continue give women the right to kill their unborn children.

The medical profession is being hypocritical in this particular situation as “an array of professional medical organizations lashed out against the court prescription, saying that it contradicts a physician’s obligation to save lives…”
Dr. Priscilla Ray, head of the American Medical Assn., said Fogel’s ruling disregarded a doctor’s ethical obligations. “A physician, as a member of a profession dedicated to preserving life when there is hope of doing so, should not be a participant in a legally authorized execution,” she said.
(Yes this is true Dr. Ray but your organization seems to have forgotten this in your approval of killing the unborn…indeed, many of your physicians (even though the biggest percentage of those who work as abortionists are the “bottom feeders of the medical profession) have become very wealthy in their execution of the unborn!)
Under a federal court order U.S. District Judge Jeremy Fogel’s ruling would ensure that Morales was unconscious before the painful second and third drugs are delivered into his veins…this in response to defense lawyers’ charges that the state’s standard three-drug potion was unconstitutionally cruel and unusual punishment. (Couldn’t help but think how it was just too bad that these defense lawyers weren’t around to help Terri Schiavo out of her long and painful journey to death…AAARRRRGGGGHHHHHH!!!!)
Taxpayers have “kept” Morales for 25 years for the crime of torturing, raping and murdering a 17-year-old girl 25 years ago – a crime that he has admitted to.
As far as your comparison to the military…sorry, there can be no true comparison. Whatever any of our thoughts are on war, there is still that implied and understood acceptance that killing may very well be a part of someone’s military service.

    Vicky,
From reading the story from the site you provided and your story.
The two anesthesiologists were employed for a specific service. They did understand what they were to perform. It wasn’t like one day, they were surprized at the hospital working for the heart surgeon as they have for the last 10 yrs. They should of checked their morals before accepting the job and money. They should be sued for breach of contract, or alike Because of the serious trouble they caused knowingly from the beginning.
Although it is my suspicion that the attorney for this Morales’ might have swayed them in his fight to buy time for his client.
Yes they should of been held liable for not performing what they agreed. Why did they accept the job if it was ethically wrong for them in the first place??
I am quite sure when I signed the papers joining the military, absolutely nowhere in written form did it state killing people. Defending yes, killing nowhere. They don’t recruit by asking ” How would you like to kill someone today!”
So if all our Marines in Iraq suddenly decided killing was ethically, and morally wrong. Can they just state so and come home when they wish?
Or would they be made to uphold their duty?

Robt – What do you think of this story? Do you think these Dr’s had the right to refuse to assist in this man’s execution?
Doctors delay execution due to ethical concerns
    AP – Wednesday, February 22, 2006
SAN QUENTIN, California (AP) – “The planned execution of a man convicted of raping and murdering a 17-year-old girl was delayed until last night after two anesthesiologists refused to participate because of ethical concerns.
With the execution scheduled for 12:01 am yesterday, defense lawyers requested a stay from the federal judge who last week ordered San Quentin State Prison to have an anesthesiologist on hand to minimize Michael Angelo Morales’ pain as he was put to death by lethal injection. A second anesthesiologist was retained as a backup.
Although US District Judge Jeremy Fogel denied the motion, both anesthesiologists withdrew, citing ethical concerns raised by his ruling.”
(I tried posting the direct link to the article but it wouldn’t post…it is from The Jamaican Observer…www.jamaicaobserver.com – type in “execution” in the “Search” box and it should take you to the article noted here.)
~ Notice the concern for the pain that Morales might experience from the lethal injection – concern for a murdering rapist….this is the “Liberal Left” talking….but turn this around and ask for the same treatment for the unborn….it’s nothing but arguments, denials etc etc. And also the pharmacists are not allowed their “ethical concerns” in handing out abortifacients are they?
