I always know what your comment is going to be before you even state it. Do you get shivers down your leg when Obama speaks? For a past Congressional lawyer I would think you would know the constitution but it appears you do not. How did you get that job anyhow?
I respond to you separately, because your comment, although inaccurate on the driver’s license issue (as I show above), was at least a respectful critique of my views.
And I respectfully disagree with you that this is about crime and criminals.
I assure you no one is more concerned than I am about violence. I mourn for each and every police officer murdered nationwide. It’s a horrific thing. And I believe the violent drug dealers have to be stopped.
But what’s the best way to stop this violence? It’s to investigate the criminals and, with the help of the local community, to finger and capture the drug kingpins.
The Arizona Immigration Law unfortunately encourages exactly the opposite, which is why the Arizona Association of Chiefs of Police opposes it.
This law takes police resources AWAY from violent drug dealers and criminals and forces the police to focus on Jose the Gardener, rather than Rico the Narco-Terrorist.
And if Jose has some information about Rico, he will never go to law enforcement now and risk deportation. So Rico literally gets away with murder.
You admit that Joe Arpaio, the Sheriff of Maricopa County (which has 60% of the Arizona population) has probably gone beyond the law in racially profiling Hispanics in Arizona. I submit to you that increases in crime may be attributable to this perversely ineffective policy.
I, like you, support comprehensive immigration reform. And I remind you that no illegal immigrant can legally obtain any welfare in America other than emergency health care.
