Can We Talk About Gun Laws Now?

October 2, 2017

I’m joined by callers as I explain why the time to talk about gun laws is NOW. Otherwise, if we wait until there are no recent shootings before we talk about gun laws, then we’ll be waiting forever.

    Dear Mark, Rush and Sean,
With respect to the gun laws I believe you are missing the larger point. Yes, people get killed with guns and additional laws are not going to prevent this. The larger point is, what could happen when the people do not have guns. Our founders, through the constitution, gave us the right to bear arms (by the way this did not exclude fully automatic weapons), to defend our selves against an over reaching, totalitarian government. What could be the consequences of such a government? Milliions of deads? We have historical examples to confirm that this would be a high probability. How does this compare to the number of lives that are lost because of the right to bear arms? Are we willing to put at risk millions of lives, to save hundreds, maybe thousands? Are we willing to give up the possibility to keep our government in control and from threatening all of our lifes to save a few?
I am not oblivious to the pain and suffering of those that have lost their lives in the recent shooting, but the consequences of not being able to bear arms may end up being much more severe; you know the examples, Germany, Russia, China, Chile, Rhodesia, Zimbamwee, Nigeria, etc. etc.

I wanted to add a point on guns you didn’t mention. In 2017 alone there have been 273 mass shootings. A mass shooting is defined as an incident where four or more people are shot and /or killed. Below is a link to the data. This was initially reported by our local ABC affiliate ABC15.
