US CORRUPTION IN THE UN "OIL FOR FOOD" PROGRAM

Think the Iraqi “Oil for Food Program” is just another example of U.N. corruption? Think again.
Who profited from the program? Not just Iraq and not just the son of Kofi Annan. If you said U.S. corporations, you’re getting warmer…
My very special guest is none other than the former head of the United Nations Oil for Food Program in Iraq, Denis Halliday. A native of Ireland, Mr. Halliday served as Assistant Secretary-General to Kofi Annan. He worked at the United Nations for 34 years until his resignation in 1998.
We will discuss not the just the Oil for Food Program but also the souring US-UN relationship under President Bush.

Catharsis
Free-floating ideas,
radical soothing,
purple rainbows rising,
dancing,
soluble flowing
through active brain, disassociated,
close off-shore from meaning,
easing,
squeezing trouble out of its tube,
extruding globs of stoicism, spinning
away into vacuum’s void.
Loving mother screaming
for her baby to remember
truth matters;
seek it in all its forms,
Share it in clever disguise,
laughing invisible tears
as a trickster joking
a solemn prize,
ulterior motives fading,
Sister Mary remaining
with eyes forgiving,
knowing more than she’ll ever say.
