I discuss how some Donald Trump supporters share similarities to people who have joined a cult. I also debate one of them on air.

That’s what I was trying to painfully discuss today…before the neo-Nazi called in…and will continue to discuss on Wednesday.
That is, is there a gentle way to explain to someone that their facts are wrong when they are so insulted by your suggestion that 2+2 really doesn’t equal 5?
Too many Democrats, in my view, are so afraid of insulting the well-meaning, naive spreader of falsehoods that they let the falsehoods continue so as not to appear in smug in pointing out that 2+2 really equals 4 instead.
As for the recount, I have extremely low, practically non-existent expectations of its success. (See my FOX appearance on it yesterday which I posted on this website.) But I do think we should check the ballots to give us all the confidence that the votes were counted fairly. And that should require a hand recount of the paper ballots.
But yes…by the time the Trumpists realize they’ve been conned, they’ll be like the students of Trump University…fleeced, penniless, and angrier than ever.
Then again, racism may be solace to many of them per LBJ’s maxim.

I appreciate your topic today. I think that the points made about cult following for Trump’s candy is accurate.
However, the backlash toward the so-called “elites” (read educated) by Trump voters, is, in part, due to our constantly styling them as naive, uninformed, and simplistic. Michael Moore warned about this in his “MM in Trumpland” video. What he feared came to pass.
I think we DO have to do a recount because we always said “If the election is close–they can steal it.” They did this in 2000, so we are not being paranoid to demand the re-count. However, will he really withdraw himself if he loses by a few hundred votes? Has it gone too far already?
I don’t know how to handle this except to encourage investigative reporters to dig, dig, dig, and publish. It may take a Woodward and Bernstein to get this guy out of the people’s house–because I do fear he will be inaugurated before we have all the facts. You can’t persuade the Trump voter of the truth that they were bamboozled any more than you could convince your friend he was being fleeced by a cult. They will be have to be schooled painfully– a long with the rest of us, unfortunately.
