I explain why tomorrow’s statewide elections in Virginia have implications far beyond state lines, and will greatly determine the future of ‘Trumpism.’

As a Virginia State Delegate myself, I also give a detailed background on the Democratic and Republican candidates for Virginia Governor, Ralph Northam and Ed Gillespie.

In the multiple contexts of 1. The covert Russian effort to pit Americans against one another, 2. The recent Terror Attack in NYC, 3. Donald Trump’s scapegoating of multiple groups of people, and 4. The Republican Candidate for Virginia’s Governor running ads portraying all immigrants as dangerous, I discuss why hate works and how to stop it.

I’m joined by callers as I discuss Justice Department Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s indictments against former Trump Campaign Manager, Paul Manafort, and his business associate, Rick Gates. I also discuss former Trump campaign adviser George Papadopolous pleading guilty to making false statements to the FBI, and why this could lead to bigger indictments.

In addition, I explain why Trump’s tax plan would be disastrous for the U.S. Economy (and a huge majority of Americans), our country’s opioid crisis, and finally the Whitefish Energy scandal in Puerto Rico.

In this very personal hour, I detail my own experiences with violence against women, through a family tragedy that affects my personal and professional life to this day.

About 20 years ago, my sister was murdered by her husband. After years of perseverance and dedication to justice, her killer was finally brought before a court of US law.

Although I can never have my sister back, her loss provided inspiration for laws I helped pass in Virginia to help victims of domestic violence, and helped to build and maintain better facilities to help victims in crisis.

GOP Cracks in the Wall of Trumpism

I discuss GOP Senator Jeff Flake’s Senate speech where he repudiates Trump and Trumpism in the strongest terms yet that we’ve heard from a sitting Republican.

Here are some of the lines from his speech.

Republican Senator Jeff Flake (AZ) announces retirement with fiery speech denouncing Trump and Trumpism. Here are just some of the quotes:
“Reckless, outrageous, and undignified behavior has become excused and countenanced as “telling it like it is,” when it is actually just reckless, outrageous, and undignified.

And when such behavior emanates from the top of our government, it is something else: It is dangerous to a democracy. Such behavior does not project strength – because our strength comes from our values. It instead projects a corruption of the spirit, and weakness.
It is often said that children are watching. Well, they are. And what are we going to do about that? When the next generation asks us, Why didn’t you do something? Why didn’t you speak up? — what are we going to say?

Mr. President, I rise today to say: Enough. We must dedicate ourselves to making sure that the anomalous never becomes normal. With respect and humility, I must say that we have fooled ourselves for long enough that a pivot to governing is right around the corner, a return to civility and stability right behind it. We know better than that. By now, we all know better than that.”

“The notion that one should stay silent as the norms and values that keep America strong are undermined and as the alliances and agreements that ensure the stability of the entire world are routinely threatened by the level of thought that goes into 140 characters – the notion that one should say and do nothing in the face of such mercurial behavior is ahistoric and, I believe, profoundly misguided.”

“I have children and grandchildren to answer to, and so, Mr. President, I will not be complicit.”
