When the history of Election of 2004 is written, John Kerry’s speech Monday on Bush’s War in Iraq will likely be remembered as the turning point: the point where Kerry, having been hurt by the Swift Boat Smear, rose again to take control of the agenda and win the Election.

The interesting part of the 60 Minutes examination of Bush’s National Guard record is not the probable forgery (which, by the way, may well turn out to be a classic Karl Rove dirty trick).
The interesting thing is that the facts underlying the likely forged documents are all true.

Back in my native home in Tennessee for Rosh Hashanah — yes, there are Jews in Tennessee. I grew up there. Stop changing the subject! — I spoke with some of my extended family that are actually planning to vote for George W. Bush. To my shock and chagrin, I discovered that many of the Big Lies told by Republican operatives and FOX News, their propaganda mouthpiece, were actually being believed by intelligent human beings who simply do not follow politics and world affairs as closely as I do for this radio show.
