Mark gives you on THE INSIDE SCOOP on all the week’s news:
— The House Republicans’ strange about-turn, agreeing, after public pressure, to accept an Ethics Committee even though it will investigate their leader Tom Delay
— The details of how the Senate Republicans’ “nuclear option” would work. Hint: it only works by throwing out ALL Congressional rules.
— and Mark questions why our troops are STILL dying because they can’t get armored vehicles?
PLUS Mark begins his analysis of what President Bush failed to say at Thursday’s press conference.

[This show was originally broadcast on May 17, 2004, the day Massachusetts legalized marriages of gay couples. It is being replayed today at listeners’ request.]
Mark Debates Glenn Stanton,
Focus on the Family ‘s Director of Social Research and Cultural Affairs and Senior Analyst for Marriage and Sexuality. Mr. Stanton is the anti-gay-marriage expert at one of the leading interest groups in America that opposes giving gay couples equal civil rights to straight couples. Mr. Stanton’s job is to train his colleagues at Focus on the Family who oppose same-sex marriage on how to debate the issue publicly by giving them the talking points and “spin bites” they need to argue the issue.
As you can imagine, Mark and Glenn had quite a debate.

NEWS FLASH: REPUBLICANS RETREAT ON ETHICS RULES!

April 27, 2005

The Republicans — who changed the ethics rules to prevent Tom Delay from undergoing scrutiny for bribery, diversion of defense resources to monitor political opponents, illegal fundraising, and numerous examples of corruption — have backed down and agreed to change the rules back, which would allow Delay’s notorious corruption to be investigated.
The Majority Party couldn’t take the intense heat put forward by the American People, who demanded that Ethics should not be disregarded just because the Republican Party has all the levers of power.
This is a great victory for America. Congratulations to all those who called their Members of Congress to make this happen. THE INSIDE SCOOP did its part, reporting on the ethical corruption of Tom Delay as early as July 9, 2004.
Now if we could only get the same outrage over the necessity of verified voting machines…
